The Wolfburn distillery was founded just west of the town of Thurso, Caithness, in 1821. Thurso Bay and the distillery overlook the turbulent waters of the Pentland Firth towards the towering cliffs of Hoy’s Orcadian Island. It is an ancient and almost unique environment, the largest expanse of covered peat bog in Europe, perhaps in the whole world, and draws its water from the Wolf Burn (stream) from which it takes its name.
In February 2016, the new Wolfburn distillery began bottling operations in a purposely-built on-site bottling plant. Our master craftsmen shape their whiskey in the same way it has always been produced: by hand, using only the best ingredients and without haste. The inaugural whisky was launched globally in March 2016 and has gone on to win numerous gold medals in international competitions.
