Single Malt Scotch Whisky

– Caol Ila –

A malt that has been well known and appreciated for some time, owing to the typical characteristics of the Islay: a particular aroma and a surprising desirability. For years, it was sold only through distributors, but as of 1988/89, the distillery started to sell it directly. Even now, however, it is not easy to find, and can be found mainly at the distillery itself and in pubs in the vicinity. Not only owing to its limited availability, but also to difficulty pronouncing the name…

– Clynelish –

A typical case of a whisky which, being produced in a coastal area of the mainland, has the typical characteristics of the island malts. Clynelish is a great malt: dry, powerful, and with a strong character. It is little known, but it is also highly appreciated by those who have had the fortune of tasting it. The distillery is located in an isolated position at the centre of the northern Highlands coast, near Brora, a well-known destination for fishing and golf. The first Clynelish distillery, established in 1819 by the first Duke of Sutherland…

– Glen Moray –

It is definitely a coincidence that two malts with very similar names – Glenmorangie and Glen Moray – are made by two distilleries belonging to Macdonald & Muir. On the label of the main version of Glen Moray, in recent years the number ’93 has been imprinted in the background. This is to indicate the year of establishment of MacDonald & Muir, even though the whisky contained in the bottles is only 12 years old.
Another coincidence is that Glenmorangie and Glen Moray were both originally breweries.

– Royal Bracklav –

In 1835, King William IV visited Brackla distillery (Speyside) and was so taken by the spirit that he bestowed the ‘Royal’ status to the distillery. It became the first ever Scotch to garner a royal warrant, later followed by Lochnagar and Glenury.
The distillery is working with traditional production methods and aims for a high level of fruitiness by allowing the fermentation stage to take 80 hours or more and running the stills at a slow pace…
